Canadian author + speaker Christina Crook communicates about technology, humanity, faith & wonder for audiences and publications throughout the world.

Hi, I'm Christina Crook and I want you to Experience the Joy of Missing Out

The world of competition and corporate bottom lines drives us to extremes. We need to go home, we need to disconnect and recharge, but it’s increasingly difficult to do so. When not used mindfully, our tech can sap our focus, productivity, creativity and, ultimately, our impact. Embracing the Joy of Missing Out is essential for success in all aspects of how we love, live, parent and lead. Joy, by definition, is “the emotion evoked by well-being, success and the prospect of possessing what one desires.” It’s what we all want.

By examining the connected world through the lens of her own internet fast, Christina Crook creates a convincing case for increasing intentionality in our day-to-day lives and cultivating joy by missing out on the right things.

My name is Christina Crook and I am the author of The Joy of Missing Out: Finding Balance in a Wired World and founder of the global JOMO community.

Through my writing, speaking and forthcoming podcast, I reveal how key shifts in our thinking can enable us to draw closer to one another, taking up the good burdens of local work and responsibilities. I write about the value of focus, making space to create, and the meaning we find in more limited connections. I challenge the Western values of power, control, and success, revealing how wonder, trust, and discipline are central to the experience of being human and the keys to our joy.

My work with JOMO is fuelled by generous humans who believe in the importance of putting people first in a digital age. I support them with monthly patron-only content - offline (through snail mail) and online. It’s the most joyful thing I do.

JOMO is the joy of missing out on the right things:
life-taking things like toxic hustle, comparison, disconnection, and digital drain in order to make space for life-giving commitments that bring us peace, love, meaning, and joy.
