Seeking Eve: In search of an honest faith

Suddenly I see her. Perched on a stool in the centre of this sweaty cafe in Vancouver’s hippy badlands.

Black hair. Dreads. Army boots. Dark eye make-up, smeared under eye, thanks to the trademark first-week-of-July-downpour pummeling down outside.

Then I see it: the edging of her hoodie, tucked over rough pink streaks. The words: “To write love on her arms.” A Jesus call. A call to stop cutting. A call to compassion. A call to stop hurting. Five words. White on black. Light on dark.

Light in the dark.

I think of leaving my roost, reaching out, extending a hand, exchanging words, learning her name. Unfolding her story.

Hesitation wins out. I watch her gather her things and head for the door. A pang of regret swells in my throat. Though it is only momentary.

After all, she is my sister.

My faith is fueled by others’ confession. It is this pursuit, of raw truth from the mouths of sisters, that inspired me to begin Seeking Eve. Please join us.
