Barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen

…and smiling.
I have been dreaming of whiling away over pots and pans for months now. Four consecutive months of eating out will do that to you. So will reading Barbara Kingsolver’s “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle.” For this deprived domestic, it was a combination of both.

Apple Rhubarb Crisp (adapted from Mama Crook’s recipe)
Equal parts Granny Smith apples and rhubarb, chopped and drizzled with honey
Topping:
1/2 cup oatmeal
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup organic sugar
1/2 cup butter
Bake and enjoy with vanilla ice cream (or my topping of choice: Island Farm’s raspberry swirl frozen yoghurt)

I feel a new blog category coming on: Domesticity.

I LOVED Animal, Vegetable, Miracle - one of my favorite books so far this year!
Me too, Alissa! I bought it my first week in Toronto and devoured it in late March. Perfect timing for my return home…
if i liked rhubarb i might try to make this…but i don’t. sorry.
in other news…sometimes when i randomly think about my friends, i freak out because i realize that the next time i see you…YOU WILL HAVE A BABY. omg.
so in regards to that: what gender indifferent colour do you prefer for something of the home made variety? that may be worn by said baby? i’m thinking if you have a boy he won’t wear something pink right? lemme know.
Haha! Meg, that IS crazy. Sheesh.
Hooray for things of the homemade variety! Gender neutral colours — hmmm… I like yellow. I also like cream and blue. Does that help?
oh — and the recipe can be made sans rhubarb. Just apples! Or apples and berries… your pick. ;)
love you. partie b.
