Fearful days

I fear for the beloved mother corp. Read the news here, here and here.

I fell for the CBC, and public broadcasting at-large, through my liberal communication studies at Simon Fraser University. Reading McChesney’s Corporate Media and the Threat to Democracy solidified it for me. Still does. To my mind, these are fearful days. We are on the brink of losing public broadcasting in this country.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. The CBC is my constant companion through the entire day. I wake up with the CBC, I walk our dog listening to the CBC, I drive to and from work listening to the CBC. The CBC has a subtle way of weaving story and opinion from every corner of Canada that makes me feel a connection with our vast country… Hearing news from Churchill Manitoba to Churchill Falls Newfoundland to everywhere above and in between.

I’ve been in a state of worry now for days. I’m sure my wife can no longer count the number of times i’ve asked: “Can you believe this?” as I shake my head.

It’s funny, because I never understood how people could drive around with bumper stickers that say “I vote CBC”…. Well, clarity has found me: I get it.

I vote CBC.

This is too important. How can we possibly know who we are without the mirror?

Well said, Ashleah. Well said. I couldn’t agree more.
